Multiple bar codes

  • jhawes by jhawes

There were multiple bar codes and labels but I was only able to transcribe 1.
Species didn't look right either but unable to change.

Some images appear to be wanting our editing only for one barcode/specimen. The species name question has been answered- the names have changed over the years and the scientists know both synonyms. 😃 Our instructions are to edit only the information we are asked for. If we are not meant to edit (most species names, for example) that field is blocked from our changes.

    Hi jhawes and gardenmaeve,

Each time you are presented with a herbarium sheet, we are asking you to focus on one barcode only, which represents one collection event. By 'collection event' we mean one time and place where a person collected specimens (although as you can see in this image, they have sometimes collected more than one individual orchid per collection event). The herbarium sheet here shows 5 collection events, and therefore there are 5 barcodes. This same sheet will come up again, but next time the system will ask the user to focus on a different barcode. It's important that you match the barcode you're given with the right one on the herbarium sheet, and then just check/transcribe the data from the labels closest to the barcode.

    Thanks for raising this,

    Lucy

Here's an example of two barcodes that are on the same sheet. We store them as two different subjects to classify, so the image could come up twice but ask for a different barcode to be checked each time.
