  Do orchids change colour as they mature? The shape seemed correct for a marsh orchid, but colour not matching identikit photo.

  Thanks for your post gwynnie - this is a Northern Marsh-orchid and colour can vary from deep magenta to reddish-purple flowers. With many orchids coloration can be very variable even within species! The best identifier is often not colour, but the shape of the lip - Northern Marsh has a distinctly diamond-shape lip.
