Hi everyone - I’m Kath, one of the Orchid Observers project NHM science team, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone taking part in Orchid Observers! The project has got off to a great start - since launching less than three weeks ago at the start of the orchid flowering season, we now have nearly five hundred registered users, over five and a half thousand classifications submitted and hundreds of field records and beautiful orchid images uploaded from across the UK! So far we have mainly collected data for the Early purple and Green-winged which are among the earliest to flower. Now we are braced for June, when we can expect to see Common spotted, Pyramidal and the fragrant orchids, among many of our other species, come into flower. We can also look out now for Fly and Butterfly orchids, and in mid-June the fabulous Bee orchid (see our ID guide on this website for the full list of the 29 species in the study). Thanks again - we really value your participation!
